Social ActionShare the PlateUUCLR has shares its offering plates twice a month with worthy causes. On fourth Sundays, our offering goes to support the work we do with Our House, a family homeless shelter. On second Sundays, the offering is shared with a variety of groups. Prison Literacy ProgramCurrently Chris Kooper, Ken Lake, Priscilla Pitman, David Simmons and Wanda Weaver volunteer at the state-run Rehabilitation Center at 4823 West 87th Street. They meet with Residents three nights per week. The Residents appreciate the non-judgmental caring and sharing. They have described this program as a refuge, reminding them that they are still part of a community. Our HouseUUCLR has served dinners at Our House for many, many years. This facility supports the working homeless and helps to transition them back to independence. A small group from the church meets once a month at the facility, providing a dinner of their choice, and serves to the residents. Fair Trade Coffee and ChocolateDon’t forget to pick up your Fair Trade Coffee and Chocolate on 1st and Third Sundays during coffee hour in Thomson Hall! Earth Ministry and Recycling TeamThe Earth Ministry group meets regularly for a "stone soup" potluck and an educational program or film focused on our Seventh Principle, the Interdependent Web of Life. Check the Calendar for the schedule. RecyclingOn the first Sunday of each month, our Recycling Team collects electronic devices, batteries, used printer cartridges, fluorescent bulbs, and other items for recycling. Aluminum cans and metals are collected and delivered to a recycling center and the funds collected come back to the church. Children collect a variety of items that are not recyclable locally and contribute to TerraCycle, a green company that uses these products to manufacture new goods.
