We have very active and sometimes
messy Sunday School experiences. Play clothes are always safest for
children.
-
We tend to
use the words "Sunday School" and "RE" (religious education)
interchangeably. Our RE classes are the UU approach to doing Sunday
School, where children and youth can expect to receive quality training in
values, spirituality, religion, and creative expression (see "Basic
Information"). At this time "RE" classes meet from 10AM-10:50AM in the
RE Wing, lower level.
-
If you arrive a few minutes
early, we can show you and your children where their classroom is and help
get them comfortable. You are welcome to stay in
class with your children to help them get acclimated and to see what we're
all about. Please DO make sure to introduce yourself to your child's
RE teacher so they can better help your child in making transitions between
class and worship and feel more comfortable in this new space.
-
The children take part in the
first portion of our worship service. There is a special time that
particularly includes them, called Time All Together. After the Time All
Together we sing a song as they leave for Activity Hour.
-
We want to make sure your
children are comfortable and safe during your visit. Please complete the
bright blue Visiting Family Form and give it to the Family Greeter or the
DRE. Please include any allergy information or
other special considerations. We do provide snack during Activity
Hour, so information about your child's dietary needs/allergy concerns will
greatly help us in selecting good, healthy snacks for every child.
-
Once you have visited three
times, we ask that you formally register your children. (The form is only
slightly longer.) Please make an appointment to meet with
John Willis,
the DRE, once you have registered. It's a good time to get all your
questions answered and let us know more about your children's interests.
-
The weekly REport is usually
e-mailed on Wednesday or Thursday. You can sign up to
receive the REport by indicating so on your visitor card or by seeing the
DRE, John Willis. You will receive regular updates about the Sunday Morning
CAYRE program and other events happening at UUCLR for children, youth, and
families. The REport will also often include links to helpful
information for UU parents or for deepening your child's spiritual growth by
continuing with RE-at-home. Please don't hesitate to talk with the DRE if you
would like more information on how to "Do UU" at home.
-
John Willis or the Religious
Education Chairs are always happy to talk with you about your children,
their experiences in Sunday School or any of the special events. We
want to know what your experiences are and how we can be of help.
