Theme Based Ministry
In April we voted to change how we do business at UUCLR. Prior to this change, there were 25
recognized committees and the majority of the committee chair posts were unfilled. We had a very
complicated and inefficient system. A model of governance was developed and introduced that replaces committees with teams of volunteers led by staff members.
We now have a group called the Program Council composed of seven team liaisons, and each team is facilitated by a staff member. This group meets monthly with the president elect to assure an overall plan
for the church. The group decided to design the plan around monthly themes and to relate the themes to the “shared values” that were gleaned from our neighborhood meetings last spring.
See the special insert, a grid outlining the monthly theme-based plan the Program Council will use to
guide the activities of the congregation. Everyone will have an opportunity to participate in this process within the next year as there will be many places that you can help to makes these themes come alive.
We invite you all to discover ways to incorporate the themes into areas of the church you are involved –
